"Free education is an important element of any country's development. I believe that the emergence of the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences is a great opportunity for Montenegro to become
a new center of free education on the map of Europe. There is now a highly professional team of teachers and administrators in our country. They have many years of experience in the liberal arts system and are ready to share it. This collaboration can become an important contribution to both the educational and social fields."
“Once in this project and its team, I often think how great it would have been to enrol in Liberal Arts back in the day! Students don't have to struggle to freely choose their own track and make choices, and the teaching staff is always there to help them find their educational path.
I believe that together we will give students from different countries the opportunity to study in the Liberal Arts model in Montenegro.”
"One's relationship with the outside world rests on two directly opposite pillars: curiosity and fear. The new, the unknown, and the other can fascinate and capture us, but at the same time they puzzle, alarm, and disgusts us. No development, including personal and professional,
is possible unless this fear is overcome.
A university built on the principle of liberal arts is an ideal environment for getting
rid of fear. You freely choose from a wide range of courses that are not limited
to one profession or scientific discipline, while simultaneously mastering very diverse skills and ideas.”

“I have been working with liberal arts
and sciences programs since 2006.
So I also helped to open such a faculty
at MSSES (Shaninka). This gave me hope that we were doing a wonderful and useful thing, but, unfortunately, these programs have been going through difficult times recently. We consider choice very important in education.
So we would like to show students
in Montenegro different learning
formats and let them be co-authors
of the curriculum. We expect all students
who are ready to share responsibility
for their studies with us, want to study
in an international environment, and can set educational goals for themselves. And we will support them all the way.
We have a lot of experience and the best teaching staff for this."

"I worked for 14 years in the team that created the faculty and the RANEPA Liberal Arts program from scratch and was a deputy dean and senior lecturer
at the MSSES (Shaninka) and RANEPA.
I developed and implemented a system
of tutor support for bachelors, which
we will improve for the new faculty
in Montenegro. Every student needs
the opportunity to choose their educational path, and at the right moment, there must be a professional tutor who can help in making important decisions. At FLAS, each student will
have such an option."

"Montenegro and the Balkans,
in general, seem to be an ideal place
for the development of free education. There is romance here, and a sense
of openness to the whole world, like
you can reach any place in the world.
The Balkans can become a launching pad for many students from Eastern Europe and other countries. Life is in full swing here now, and many new projects are emerging in various fields. It is the bachelor's model of Liberal Arts and Sciences that perfectly corresponds
to the place, time, and tasks which young people set themselves in tough times. We have assembled a team of super professionals who are passionate about their scientific research and have extensive experience in teaching, creating their schools and working together with students."

“The opening of Liberal Arts programs
in Russia in recent years and their popularity show that modern students need this model. I hope that there will
be no less interest in the Liberal Arts program in the Balkans. And I am sure that our team, together with the students, will create the future without imposing it on anyone. FLAS will help all our graduates to find and determine their personal paths and form an image of the future of their generation, regardless
of which countries they will have to live and work in.”
“Montenegro is a country that conceals huge and often underestimated opportunities. I am sincerely glad
to contribute to the development
of education here. I hope that our faculty will become a place that unites the best teachers and interested students,
a place where academic knowledge
is filled with the spirit of freedom.
I share the idea of the Liberal Arts model, in which students first obtain a broad education, and then determine their individual trajectories based on their interests. Looking back, I regret that during my studies at the university,
I did not have the opportunity to study
at such a faculty.”

What We Do
With the outbreak of the war in 2022, entire teaching teams, groups
of researchers, and university administrators left Russia. So this
is how our team came together.
We want to preserve the best in the experience of education and the organization of university life,
to allow the teaching staff to develop and create new scientific and
research schools and educational traditions in the free world.
In the fall of 2022 and spring
of 2023, we conducted 10-week preparatory courses on the Liberal Arts system. Our goal was to get students acquainted with the model Liberal Arts, create the necessary base for admission
to the faculty Liberal Arts and Sciences in September 2023,
as well as dive into the history and lifestyle of the modern Balkans, including education

Reviews
  • Hello! Today I would like to share my opinion about an educational program, one of the first students of which I happened to be.
The Foundation Liberal Arts Montenegro program is a three-
month course that gives an idea of what the Liberal Arts & Sciences model is.

The choice of subjects and activities on the course is quite diverse and, it seems to me, everyone, regardless of their area of interest, will be able to make a suitable set for themselves. It is also worth mentioning the bright and serious teaching staff. My impression after completing the program is extremely positive. Despite the organizational difficulties at the first stage of the course launch, thanks to the diligent work of teachers and coordinators, I did not notice any damage to the educational process.

Among other things, I am very inspired by the idea of FLAS as a kind of "island" of liberal education in the Balkans using the Russian language. If you share the values of free education and are ready to try the Liberal Arts model, I recommend you to enroll in this program. It is quite extraordinary for the post-Soviet space. At the same time, you can enjoy all the advantages of living on the picturesque and climatically ideal Adriatic coast!

  • Hello! My name is Milana, and I was lucky enough to become one
of the first students in the Liberal Arts & Sciences Foundation program in Montenegro. I took a couple of courses that were included in the Foundation program of the future Faculty: Montenegrin language and Modern Balkans.

I was very satisfied with both of them, as well as with the training on the program as a whole. They were led by wonderful, responsive teachers, whose classes were always interesting. Most of all,
I appreciated the flexibility of the system and the opportunity
to build a more individual learning trajectory taking into account the students' interests. I also liked that the format of the classes was close to seminars. Special thanks to the program coordinators who helped students to settle in Montenegro during their first weeks there and met their needs in solving problems that arose!

What We Plan
We inherit the founders of free education of the European type. First of all, Theodor Shanin who urged us to never
give up and do only what we really want to do in life.
So we want to:

  • create an ideal university taking into account our past successes and mistakes.

  • give students the opportunity to receive a quality education that they choose for themselves

  • organize in Montenegro a platform for researchers and scientists from all over the world where they could meet, exchange experiences, and create the future together.

What We Plan
